About the Maniacs
In November 2007, the Long Beach State Athletic Department made it a mission to increase the student support at home basketball games. Due to the high-profile hiring of new head coach Dan Monson, the dedicated student section known as the 'Monson Maniacs' was born.
Despite a difficult year, more than 600 students showed support for the men's basketball team, willing the team to more than half of its season win total on its home court at the Walter Pyramid.

During the 2008-09 season, the second of the Monson Maniacs, more than 1,200 crazed members pushed the 49er men's basketball team from preseason-Big West bottom-dwellers to within a breath of a conference championship - losing at the buzzer on the final day of the regular season.
The student support has made the Walter Pyramid one of the most uncomfortable and formidable places to play for visiting teams in the Big West Conference.

In 2009-10, the Maniacs are out in records numbers and have helped the 49ers produce one of the top home records in the Big West Conference, including a HUGE, dominant home win against nationally-ranked Utah State in convincing fashion.
The Maniacs are officially the most-feared and most-intimidating student section in the Big West Conference.
